Voice Lessons | As a voice instructor, I discover through various exercises, the "tends tos" of each of my students. Exercises are then given to each student to counter and relieve those tendencies.
The technique I use is one that allows students to sing in any style, including opera, country, rock, blues and jazz. I can help with style, but do not teach it unless it is requested. I simply direct each student to his best voice. It is a process during which the vocal cords will become stronger and the voice will become an instrument of one voice, from the bottom through the top. The student's vocal range and control will improve.
There are no time limits. I have found that improving one's voice is an ongoing process. It works for people of all ages, young or old. However, it takes many lessons to achieve actual connection and a totally relaxed larynx; a must for the best of voices.
Practice is a must. Each of my students will learn to perform songs and there will be, at least, two scheduled recitals each year. Students will perform in a relaxed environment in front of their peers and anyone they choose to invite. There is no cost to the students for these recitals. The recitals will be recorded and the DVD's will be available at some point after the performance.
I also offer CD recording in my studio. If a student wishes, he may record one or two songs when he feels ready. This will give students another tool to measure progress.
I also offer a weekend camp, where on a Saturday and Sunday students can learn how to use a mic, set up a PA, stage a song, and work with a live musician which involves counting in and setting a song's format. It is informative and fun, and costs $100 for the weekend instruction. In January of 2010, I will be offering "Stand up and Sing" once a month for singers to bring in a practiced CD and be judged by their peers, others who also want to be critiqued. The cost for this is $10/visit. I will also be hand selecting students who have good ears to participate in my harmony classes, also once a month. I will form trios and quartets of these students to study and perform at our recitals along with their single performances there.
My weekly lessons are half an hour to 45 minutes in length, depending on what needs to be covered and the fee is $120/month for 4 lessons; one lesson per week. Each lesson is recorded on CD to give the student a practice tool to take with them. For more information, contact Susan at (916)394 0232. My studio is located in South Sacramento, close to Elk Grove, Land Park and Greenhaven areas.
