BiographyEducation:
Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Speech/Theater from Sacramento State
College Performing Experience: Began singing with
her sisters in the quartet THE BURNS SISTERS at age 11, performing show tunes and popular music from
1960 to 1970. Performed
throughout California at County Fairs, Military Bases and private clubs
doing 4 part harmony with 5 piece band and choreographed routines. Lead singer and
front person for popular night club band, THE TAREYTONS, performing up
and down the west coast, Idaho and Utah, 1970-71. Became part of a
popular duo in Sacramento 1972-1975, also performing with a country band
during this time. Formed
contemporary band in Redding, Ca and performed in Northern
California from 1975-1985 while raising her children. Moved to San Diego
in 1985 and worked with various big bands, duos, and combos throughout
San Diego County until the move to Sacramento in 2003.
Worked for over 10 years as part of a duo in Oceanside, CA, at the
Flying Bridge, 1987-2000. Won
San Diego's prestigious Jolson Award for best duo in 1991. Teaching
Experience: Taught
physical education to kindergarten through sixth grade in San Diego,
1986-1987, gaining experience teaching children of various ages.
Began instructing voice shortly thereafter through California Music
Studios. Had over 50 students during that time. Some students affiliated with the studio have gone on to appear on Star Search and other Talent Contests. Became involved with Children’s Theater in SD, and did the vocal instruction for performances 2002-2003, including Annie Get Your Gun, The Music Man and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown performed in the summer of 2003. Currently,
Susan is building her voice studio in her home
in S. Sacramento; close to Land Park, Greenhaven, Meadowview, and Elk
Grove. All ages are
welcome from kindergarten to adults.
